Here are some more information about some of the companies and UX teams we are going to visit at our upcoming UX Tour of China.

China Mobile, Beijing

China Mobile is a state-owned telecommunication company and the leading mobile services provider in Mainland China with a total staff of over 182,000. It has the world’s largest mobile network and the world’s largest mobile customer base which, by 31 December 2012, reached 710 million.

Who are we going to meet
We will visit a UX team that are doing testing, product evaluation, user research and design.

Intel is the world’s largest semiconductor chip maker corporation. The multinational company is headquartered in California and has around 82,500 employees worldwide.

The Intel China Research Center in Beijing is part of Intel’s worldwide research center for processor technology and emerging applications for the IA-32 and Intel® Itanium® processors and platforms.

Who are we going to meet
The Research Center has an innovation team including UX team members, who focuses on research and design. They work in a cross-functional innovation and strategy team that also includes technology experts and business development managers. The team focuses on incubating ideas in the health vertical in Intel.



ISAR User Interface Design, Beijing

Established in December, 2001 by an ex-Siemens director, ISAR is the first professional company specialized in user research, user interface design and usability evaluation in China.

The company has more than 100 employers, working in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Nanjing. They have different academic backgrounds: psychology, sociology, design, pedagogy, statistics, communications, software engineering, linguistics, and so on. With years of experience in projects and different knowledge background, they participate in all aspects of the project from different professional perspectives and helps to develop user required products, which is easy and pleasant to operate.

ISAR has six standard usability laboratories, and passed ISO 9241 certification. Those labs are equipped with eye trackers and the UX Office which is developed by the company itself.



Ctrip, Shanghai

As China’s leading travel service enterprise, Ctrip provides over 50 million registered members with comprehensive services including hotel reservations, flight ticketing, packaged tours and corporate travel management. The company has 16 branch offices in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other major cities throughout China, and it currently employs more than 12,000 people. Since 2009, Ctrip have also expanded its service scope to include Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau in addition to over 60 destinations throughout Mainland China.

Who are we going to meet
Ctrip has two UED teams, web and mobile. We are going to visit the mobile  UX team. Their work covers all Ctrips mobile UX work, including App and mobile web,etc..



Alibaba, Shanghai

Alibaba Group is a family of Internet-based E-Commerce businesses that cover business-to-business online marketplaces, retail and payment platforms, shopping search engine and data-centric cloud computing services. In 2012, two of Alibaba’s portals together handled 1.1 trillion yuan ($170 billion) in sales, more than competitors eBay and Amazon combined.

Who are we going to meet
Alibaba’s international UX team. A team of more than 50 members, they have researchers, interaction designers, visual designers and content managers. Their work covers web and mobile UX for and



ARK, Shanghai

ARK Design was founded by three ex-Frog employees about one year ago. Since then they have managed to grow to a team of 13 people including 3 creative directors, 1 strategy director, 1 strategist+researcher, 3 visual designers, 3 interaction designers, 1senior program manager, and 1 intern. . They do design, research, and innovation strategy.

Microsoft China is based at three major locations and has multiple Research and Development as well as Sales offices around China with a workforce of 4000 employees.

Who are we going to meet
In Shenzhen we are going to visit a UX design and research team. The team works with user research, ID and UI – in addition they work with creating awareness about users and why listening to them is important not just for designers but also for engineers.

Eico Design is a design agency that started out as a design brand in 2004 and registered as a company in 2008.

Now the company has 36 employees and two offices (Beijing and Xiamen) with local and international clients.

Their main competences are interaction design, visual design and motion design with a strong focus on mobile and web. The company also initiated a user research service from late 2011. In addition they develop their own products such as the successful Weico, which is the biggest 3rd-party Sina Weibo client running on mobile ( is one of the most popular websites in China and is a hybrid of Twitter and Facebook).

Noyaxe, Beijing

Noyaxe is a mobile tech start up company with a very strong UX profile. The company develop their own mobile technology products and also provides user research and design. Of the company’s close to 20 employees about half work with UX and all have a background in Nokia Research Center.

They do explorative user studies, usability, technology feasibility studies, solution proposal, and development end-to-end solutions.

The team is a combination of user researchers, designers, app developers, and service developers with access to hardware, and mechanical engineers as well as manufacturing factories.

We are also going to visit Nokia in Beijing, frog in Shanghai and Huawei in Shenzhen.
